How can we split a file on a Windows system at a command prompt based on size. like linux we use

You can compress the required file to a zip (or rar) file by setting the maximum file size so that it is split. This means that you will always have a program to get the source file back.
Some options:

  • HJSplit is free and portable (size = 300 KB) and does not need to be installed.
  • There is an older version of the Goetz File Splitter command line version , it is best to plan to run batch scripts to split many files.
  • 7-Zip is another free open source program that allows you to split (with or without compression) and combine files, either through the graphical interface (right-click on a file> Split file ...> select a size) or in command line.
  • Total Commander does this as well (Files> Split File ...).
