Installing a Windows 10 Application with PowerShell Removal

I tried to use a universal Windows 10 application with PowerShell removal. I tried everything that I can think of, so now I am contacting you with the hope that someone can give me an answer or explanation why my approach does not work. Alternative solutions are also welcome.

Essentially, I want to remotely install a Windows 10 application, and my approach is to download the file to the target computer and use remote access to start the installation. This is a flip version of my script:

$computerName = 'XYZ' $userName = 'abc' $newCred = Get-Credential "$computerName\$userName" $newSession = New-PSSession -ComputerName $computerName -Credential $newCred -ErrorAction Stop Invoke-Command -Session $newSession -ErrorAction Stop -Verbose -Scriptblock { function installApp($srcDirectory) { $installer = Get-ChildItem "$srcDirectory\App.Test*\Add-AppDevPackage.ps1" | Select-Object -ExpandProperty FullName &($installer) } $srcDirectory = "$($env:TEMP)/TestApp" installApp($srcDirectory) } Remove-PSSession $newSession

Essentially, all he is trying to do is run the generated script that was generated in visual studio to install the application. But when I run it, I get the following:

 Installing app... Add-AppxPackage : Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073CF6, Det gick inte att registrera paketet. error 0x80070005: Adding a tile failed with unexpected error. I came across the same error. I tried to install on top of Cygwin SSH instead of Remote PowerShell, but I suspect the underlying reason is similar.

I managed to get around this by setting a scheduled task that runs the Powershell script in a known place. (I did the scheduled task with the highest possible privileges, although I'm not sure if this is necessary.) Then I was able to remotely install the contents of this Powershell script to start the installation of the script application, and then run the scheduled task using schtasks , which worked like a charm.

So, as Shoib has already pointed out, the planned task would do the trick. You can also try to start the remote process through WMI as follows:

 Invoke-WmiMethod -Class win32_process -name Create -ComputerName dflt -Credential $cred -ArgumentList "powershell.exe -noprofile -noninteractive -executionpolicy bypass -encodedCommand 'your encoded command goes here'"

You can also try starting another powershell process from a ps session (providing other user credentials) and passing a command to that process (quite similar to the WMI method, but from a PSSession).

Have you tried to just invoke a command on a remote computer? this may work (although I doubt it).

You can use the configuration of the desired state to achieve what you need, but outsmart a little (but should work at 101%). It is assumed that there must be a script provider for DSC.

I was stuck in exactly the same problem for several days. After finding this thread and reading the Shoaib answer, I started playing with the scheduled tasks and finally wrote a script that works for me. I found a lot of problems with tasks and Add-AppxPackage and realized that you have to configure the task with the parameter "User must be logged in" (sorry, Spanish version). Add-AppxPackage requires the user to register with Works, which may explain why it does not work with Invoke-Command.

 $adminUser = " user@domain " $adminPass = "xxxxxxx" $pw = ConvertTo-SecureString -AsPlainText -Force -String $adminPass $cred = New-Object -Typename System.Management.Automation.PSCredential -ArgumentList $adminUser, $pw $command = "Add-AppxPackage -Path '\\path\App.appxbundle'" $bytes = [Text.Encoding]::Unicode.GetBytes($command) $encodedCommand = [Convert]::ToBase64String($bytes) $remoteUser = " userLogged@domain " $remoteComputer = "192.168.0.50" $taskName = "Task" $taskCommand = "powershell.exe" $taskArg = "-noprofile -noninteractive -windowstyle hidden -executionpolicy bypass -encodedCommand ""$encodedCommand""" $taskAction = New-ScheduledTaskAction -Execute $taskCommand -Argument $TaskArg $taskTrigger = New-ScheduledTaskTrigger -At 9am -Once $taskPrincipal = New-ScheduledTaskPrincipal -UserID $remoteUser -LogonType Interactive -RunLevel Highest $cimSession = New-CimSession -ComputerName $remoteComputer -Credential $cred -Authentication Negotiate Register-ScheduledTask -Action $taskAction -Trigger $tasktrigger -TaskName $taskName -Principal $taskPrincipal -CimSession $cimSession Start-ScheduledTask -CimSession $cimSession -TaskName $taskName Sleep 5 Get-ScheduledTask -CimSession $cimSession | Where-Object {$_.TaskName -eq $taskName} | Unregister-ScheduledTask -CimSession $cimSession -Confirm:$false
