What specifications do I need to know for developing an application for Bluetooth (AVRCP 1.4) for iPhone

I am new to iPhone dev't, and I am going to work on a project where I need to develop an application for iPhone that supports Bluetooth to control the car stereo and DVD player. The car has a physical remote control (IR), and the goal of this project is to replace the iPhone's Bluetooth-enabled IR application to control the functions that the IR performs. Play, stop, next, previous, etc.

Hardware can communicate with AVRCP 1.4. I do not know every detail, but that is what I know.

What knowledge is needed to implement the application?

Thanks.

AVRCP is a Bluetooth 2.1 profile, so you will need to go through MFI - even if you are not an audio device manufacturer, you probably won’t be able to get a certified solution since you won’t be able to get an Apple chip added to the device.

To clarify my answer - according to this document, iOS supports AVRCP in conjunction with A2DP to allow external devices (such as a car stereo) to play / pause / skip tracks played by an iOS device. Managing an external device from your iOS device is not available for the application
