Internet Explorer Developer Tools Gap Long Time

I am optimizing the web page. It takes about 5 seconds to load on Chrome, but 15 seconds on IE11. Looking at the network tab of the IE developer tools shows that he spends 12 seconds in the Gap. Here is a screenshot of the sync results

My question is what is Gap and what is done during Gap? I know that it is described as "the time between the completion of this request and the load page" in IE, but I'm not sure what is meant by this.

Break time is defined in Using the Internet Explorer Developer Tools Development Tool for Internet Explorer :

The offset value that is accepted when a response is received. Duration is the time between this start time and the end of the last request associated with the original HTTP request.

An older resource on the Chris Bowen blog defined it more succinctly :

Gap - time between completion of the response to the page load event.

So the gap is how much time elapsed between the last byte received and the load event. After the last byte is received, other browsers are likely to be requested by the browser. The upload event will not be fired until all images have been uploaded, etc.

If this resource is connected to the network, I (and others here, I'm sure) would be happy to help you identify the bottles in your performance and responsiveness.
