Change active sound card on the fly

Currently, I have speakers configured in both my office and my living room, connected to my computer via two sound cards, and would like to switch the set of speakers that I output on the fly.

Does anyone know a windows API application or call that I can use to change the default audio output device? Currently, it’s a little painful to go through the existing control panel system.

This topic is covered in detail here. It is easy to change or switch the default audio sound in Vista or XP . Note that sound control has changed significantly in Vista.

On the side of the note, I think SnapStream is working / working on an application for allo multi-channel sound cards to output to different rooms (speaker sets) at the same time.
