Android auto - how to enable developer mode

Earlier in the Android Auto application, I could open the Auto application and click on the header image about 10 times, after which you will receive a message with a toast informing you that the developer mode is available from the overflow menu. But since the update, I can no longer enable developer mode. Is there a new way to do this?

Used for this , but now the application is updated, and there is still a header image, but now its microphone, as shown below, does nothing when pressed:

Quote from androidpolice.com :

Developer Mode

Finally, a note on developer mode, as some people will be sure to ask. It is still there and available basically the same way. Instead of clicking on the image several times, you want to give ten quick taps directly to the words “Android Auto” in the action bar. As before, the toast message confirms that it worked. But do not expect anything new on the developer options screen, it is identical to the previous version.

Just to provide a link that supports the accepted answer, but from the official doc :

On your mobile device, enable Android Auto development mode by running the Android Auto companion app, and then click the name of the Android Auto toolbar 10 times. This step is only required the first time you run the companion application.

To enable Android Auto Developer Mode:
1. Launch the Android companion app for Android
2. Open the navigation box
3. Click "About menu item" 4. Press 10 times the top horizontal toolbar, which says "About Android Auto"
5. A Toast message appears when developer mode is activated.
6. Continue the following steps - Start the head unit server from the menu, etc.

Just an update for 2019, my phone is running Android Auto 4.4.592344, and clicking on the "Android Auto" toolbar did not activate the developer settings.

Instead,

  1. Open the Android Auto companion app
  2. Click on the hamburger menu and go to settings
  3. Scroll down and click "Version."
    • Version information for related installed applications is disclosed.
  4. Click on the extended version information several times, eventually a pop-up notification will pop up with a click counter, keep clicking until the developer’s settings are turned on

This is similar to how developer settings are enabled in Android root settings.
