I have MS Windows Server 2012 R2 working with AWS and you want to watch its logs using CloudWatch.
Setting up a Linux server that is not an EC2 instance works well, as there are instructions for installing agents that send log entries to CloudWatch, regardless of where the server is running.
However, to find such instructions for the MS Windows server, I can only find links to EC2Config Service, for example. here http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/WindowsGuide/UsingConfig_WinAMI.html#UsingConfig_Install
It is possible that I can simply install the service on an instance of "nonEC2" and it will work, but since the server is in working mode, I dare not do a blind test, ignoring the risk of server infection.
Note that I like to view the logs recorded in the log files , I care (currently) about the contents of the syslog.
This will help me if:
- someone refers to the positive experience of using the EC2Config service on a nonEC2 server.
- or someone offers an alternative method for retrieving journal entries in CloudWatch.
