Sound source option in the Developer option in Android M

I recently upgraded to Android Marshmallow. In the developer’s settings, I found a new option “Select USB configuration” with additional parameters, for example

  • Charging only
  • Mtp
  • Ptp
  • RNDIS (USB Ethernet)
  • Audio source
  • MIDI

I used the first three options: Charging Only, MTP and PTP. But how do the last 3 options work?

I tried with "Audio Source" and I think this option is for using your phone as a USB host for a sound source, but still I can’t figure out how it will work?

  • An audio source allows you to transfer the audio output of your phone as a microphone input to your computer.
  • MIDI allows your phone to act as a MIDI device and give MIDI instructions to your computer. You will need to use midi-supported applications to make them work. Something like this
