How to fix: HAXM silent installation only supports Mac OS X 10.8 to 10.10

After upgrading my Mac to OS X El Capitan 10.11.1, I was unable to create new virtual devices in Android Studio

Now, when I create a new virtual device and launch my application, I get the following message:

> emulator: The memory needed by this AVD exceeds the max specified in > your HAXM configuration. HAXM is not working and emulator runs in > emulation mode emulator: AVD RAM size = 1024 MB emulator: HAXM > max RAM size = 512 MB emulator: You might want to adjust your AVD RAM > size and/or HAXM configuration to run in fast virt mode. emulator: > emulator window was out of view and was recentered emulator: > UpdateChecker: skipped version check

I followed this answer to solve this problem, but when I try to install it again, I have the following message:

Silent HAXM installation only supports Mac OS X 10.8 to 10.10!

So, What is the correct way to install the HAXM kernel extension on 10.11 El Capitan?

I have the same problem and it was solved by manually installing the latest HAXM for Mac OS 10.11.

I hope this will be helpful.

If you have Homebrew installed, you can do it like this:

 brew install caskroom/cask/intel-haxm

Here are the formulas, this currently points to version 7.2.0: https://github.com/caskroom/homebrew-cask/blob/14a0a23ae84df4e3d8a4be60b19e8ddb269415ec/Casks/intel-haxm.rb
