How to authorize an Office 365 Outlook add-in

I am creating an Office 365 add-in for Outlook. I want my add-in to start automatically when the user reads the email (opens it in the reading pane).

My current version displays the name of the add-in at the top of the mail body and when I click on the add-in.

Office.initialize = function (reason) { $(document).ready(function () { displayItemDetails(); }); };

I would also like to hide this add-in button and just run it behind the scenes.

The Office add-in platform currently does not allow applications to automatically launch themselves as you describe. Feel free to request this functionality on "Extending the user platform extension platform . "

Autostarting Outlook add-ins is not supported today.

What is your scenario? There may be another way to achieve this.

Old question, new information:

While not exactly β€œautostart”, Outlook now supports add-in binding. When the add-in supports pinnable taskpane , the user is provided with the "pin" option of the open add-in. When a user moves between mail items, the attached add-in will automatically load in the new context of the mail item.
