Why can't I export xcode tool data in CSV format? Greyed out option

I am currently trying to record the middle, high and low frame rates of an iOS application by running it through Xcode. I:

  • Download the project in Xcode.

  • go to Product โ†’ Build For โ†’ Profiling and create it on my device (iPad 2)

  • Long click on the play button and select "Profile"

  • When prompted, select the Core Animation tool.

  • Click the "Record" button, starting the application.

  • Perform a 5 minute test. The tool displays a frame.

  • Click the Stop button to stop the application.

  • Click "Tool" in the xcode menu to proceed to exposure.

At this point, the greyed option is without explanation. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Some tools do not support export to CSV. Disabled the menu item "Export tracks" - this is a sign that the Core Animation tool cannot export to CSV. Disabling UI elements and menu items is Apple's way of saying that you cannot do something in Tools.

If you want to know why the Core Animation tool cannot export its data to CSV, I have no answer for you. Your best bet is to ask on the Apple Developer Forums. The Xcode section has a Performance Tools panel. If you're lucky, an Apple engineer can explain why.

You already know this, but you can save your trace in the File menu. You cannot read the data in a text editor, but you can at least analyze the trace data in the Tools later.
