How to read .man file not by manpath?

How can I read a .man file that was not in my manpath? I know that I have a team for this, but now I don’t remember, and I can’t find the correct switch in the man pages for the person.

You can try to read the file by doing

man path_to_file

since the person will treat this argument as a file if he finds a slash in it / . For example,

 man ./my_test

will open my_test file, and

 man my_test

will look in the standard manual for this command.

If your manual page is in a non-standard directory, you can use:

 man -M <path to man directory> mymanpage

You can also use the MANPATH environment variable:

MANPATH=<path to man directory> man mymanpage

If you want to format a separate manual page, use nroff:

 nroff -man mymanpage.1
