ElastiCache Service Window Availability

We plan to use ElastiCache (Redis) instead of our own redis cluster. However, setting up a service window raises some questions,

If I use a multipurpose replicated cluster, will the transition to the reserve resource of elastic rubber be available replicas in the windows of service or the entire cluster will work during maintenance?

How long does it usually take?

We can also use MemCached instead of Redis, does it have higher availability in maintenance windows?

How do others handle ElastiCache's Manastenance windows? Just go idle?

Thanks!

Less than 60 minutes:

"If a scheduled event is scheduled for a given week, it will start and end at some point during the 60-minute service window that you identify."

How often:

Software updates occur infrequently (usually once every few months) and rarely require more than part of your maintenance window. If you do not specify a preferred weekly maintenance window when creating a cache cluster, a 60-minute default value will be assigned.
