Why are all my view controllers square?

I'm trying to get it to be an iphone project, but when I drag any view controller into a storyboard, it's just weird almost a square, no ipad, no iphone. What am I doing wrong here? The latest version of Xcode.

This is a new feature called "size classes". You can use it to create a universal storyboard for iPhone and iPad right away.

But I don’t like it, so here’s how to turn it off: in the storyboard, open the utility inspector (on the right), then go to the file inspector (on the left) and now disable “Use dimension classes”. Then you will get a standard storyboard.

You are not doing anything wrong. The default design is with user interface restrictions, so the actual size of the output does not matter.

What you can do is set the size that you want to view in your controller in the options in the right pane. For instance.
