Umbraco 7 add a new item to the toolbar

Question

I am trying to add a new "Section" element in Umbraco 7. Without success.

What I'm trying to achieve is to add an extra icon in the left menu after the participants icon. I saw that the google analytics package adds an icon after installation.

I tried changing dashboard.config, application.config, without success. Could someone point me to some tutorial on how to do this, replay subj, did not bring results.

Marcus has some useful tips, but his blog was written for 7.0 - some things have changed in 7.1. Work through Tim Geisens blog post http://www.nibble.be/?p=434 http://www.nibble.be/?p=440

One very important tip - do not forget to add the section to your user account! Perhaps you did everything right and missed adding your user section to your account!
