Unable to install .net infrastructure on Windows 2012 server

I tried to add .net 3.5 functions to a (remote) Windows 2012 server. But I get the following exception.

Do you need to specify an alternative source path? One or more installations are missing source files at the destination server. The server will try to get the missing source files from Windows Update or from the location specified in Group Policy. You can also click the "Specify an alternative source path" link on this page to specify a valid location for the source files.

I tried to download and install using the framework 3.5 setting, and that also failed.

I saw several workarounds for this from the below URL

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2734782

Is it possible to add .net 3.5 without using installation media (OS)

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I solved this by selecting " Contact Windows Update" directly to download the "Update" checkbox, rather than the "Windows Server Update Window (WSUS) " in the "Edit Group Policy" window, as suggested in Method 2 of the above URL

If you changed the path to the installation media after installing the Windows server, follow these steps:

If you want to specify an alternative source file in the Alternate source file, specify the full path for the shared folder containing the contents of the dvd: \ sources \ sxs folder from the installation media.

This may not work for everyone, but worked in my scenario.

I had a server that allowed me to install .NET, and the other did not. I copied the C: \ windows \ WinSxS \ directory from the production server to C: \ WinSxS \ on a non-working server, and then pointed to this copied directory when it asked for a new source location. He even remembered the place when I returned to install other functions.
