The Ambari server collects information from all Ambari clients and sends operations to the clients (start / stop / restart the service, changing the configuration for the service, ...).
The Ambari client sends information about the machine and the services installed on this computer.
You have one Ambari server for your cluster and one Ambari agent per machine in your cluster.
