Horizontal scrolling, like vertical scrolling in IntelliJ IDEA

Scrolling vertically in IntelliJ IDEA works as we expected: moving the viewport up and down. However, horizontal scrolling does not move the viewport, but moves the cursor left and right.

How to make horizontal scrolling move the viewport (e.g., vertical scrolling)?

If that matters, this is a Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop. The trackpad allows two fingers to scroll in any direction. Programs such as Firefox correctly move the viewport when scrolling horizontally.

Probably not a 100% solution, but you can try using the touchpad scroll while holding down the SHIFT button.
