Mozilla add-on development: Chrome page equivalent?

Question

I was looking for an answer a bit, but everything I have found so far is outdated. Is there something similar to the Google Chrome Page Action for Mozilla Firefox Addon?

Or is there a good way to disable / cross off the browser icon in Firefox so that users know that they cannot use the extension unless the corresponding URL addresses it?

The equivalent browser action buttons are those in the sdk/ui/button namespace:

• sdk/ui/button/action
• sdk/ui/button/toggle

This is a relatively recent addition to Firefox (29). If you need these buttons in earlier versions of Firefox, check out my browseraction-jplib module .
