Spark 1.0.2 (also 1.1.0) freezes on a partition

I have a strange problem in apache sparks and I would appreciate help. After reading data from hdfs (and performing some conversion from json to an object), the next step (processing the specified objects) ends with an error after processing 2 partitions (total of 512). This happens on large data arrays (the smallest that I noticed is about 700 megabytes, but maybe lower, I haven't narrowed it down yet).

EDIT: 700 megabytes is the size of the tgz file, uncompressed for its 6 gigs.
EDIT 2: The same thing happens with spark 1.1.0

I run a spark with a local master on a 32-core computer with 60 gigabytes with the following settings:

spark.akka.timeout = 200 spark.shuffle.consolidateFiles = true spark.kryoserializer.buffer.mb = 128 spark.reducer.maxMbInFlight = 128

with a heap performer size of 16 gigabytes. Memory does not increase, processor load is negligible. Spark just hangs, forever.

The following is a spark log:

1) What does DAGScheduler: failed: Set() mean? I assume this is not critical from the INFO level, but you never know.

2) What does Missing parents mean? Again, this is INFO.

Has anyone had a problem with this? This is strange because for small (tiny) datasets (test instruments, etc.) it works.

I do not answer the question about such an old spark , but I know that when the application freezes, it is possible that your resources are killed ( , for example).

I had a similar problem in Could KMeans Spark not handle bigdata? The best thing you could do is fine-tune your application, as there is no information in your question that will tell you how to fix it.

You can also fine-tune the number of sections using a rule of thumb.

For another job that I had to set up to scale to 15T data, I reported my approach to the memoryOverhead issue in Spark , but I don't know if this is related.

As Carl Higley suggested, and I agree:

An error in planning a planned acyclic schedule (DAG) means that the set of unsuccessful stages is empty (i.e. nothing has been successful).

Missing parents is a list of steps whose results are needed to calculate the requested results and which are not yet cached in memory.
