Install the application via usb: the device is temporarily limited

When I switch to installation via USB in developer mode:

  • A message appears stating that the device is temporarily limited
  • then cancel the settings.

Is there any solution for this?
I searched all the way, like disabling MIUI optimization, but still not working. Thus, I cannot debug an Android Studio application this way.

For me on root MIUI v.8.5.1 I just need to:

  • disable wifi
  • enable mobile connection. In jut development option

after they started working with the installation via USB and USB debugging.

All you have to do is turn off Wi-Fi, turn on mobile data, and then turn on the “Install via USB” setting. It will pass.

“Install via USB” will not work if your Xiaomi phone is running MIUI 8 or higher . It seems that when you try to enable this option, your phone tries to connect to some Chinese server and does not work.

I have a job and it worked for me. The idea is to connect to the Sino-Shanghai server via VPN. Try the following:

  • Install PlexVPN from the Playstore and log in. You will receive a 24-hour free VPN service.
  • Select the China-Shanghai server and connect.
  • From the developer option on your Xiaomi phone Enable “Install via USB” .
  • You can then disconnect the VPN and exit PlexVPN.

Enjoy !!

(1) Turn off your wifi
(2) Include your Mobile Data
(3) Enable “Install via USB” from the developer option of your device.
What all

MIUI 8.5 gives an error, as you mentioned when you turned on "install via USB" to fix the error needed to turn off WIFI and enable mobile data, and then turn on the "Install via USB" option. It will work for you.

The best I found on devices without mobile data on the device is SIGN_OUT from MI_Account in the device and Login Again → Try to enable USB_Debugging (security setting) → enable INSTALL_VIA_USB

Turning off Wi-Fi and turning on Mobile Data (thanks for Xiaomi for spending money on providing mobile data that I didn’t have) on Xiaomi 4A did not work for me. Every time I tried to turn on the Install App Via USB , he allowed me to " temporarily block the device ." So, I found this solution:

Enable VPN on your device with these settings and try switching Install from USB again:
IPSec Key: vpn , Username: vpn , Password: vpn

I hope this information will be useful to someone

Redmi 4 Note (Nougat 7.0, MIUI 9)

For me, settings such as Turning WiFi and turning it on, attempting a data network or turning off MIUI optimization do not work. In addition, Install via USB never turned on.

The following steps helped me install the application via USB

  • Additional Settings > Developer Options
  • Click here USB Debugging (Security Settings) . This will guide you through some warning screens. Allow (click Next / Accept) for everyone. In the end it will be turned on.
  • Now turn on Install via USB and it will turn on.
  • Try to launch the application by connecting it. If it still does not work (as in my case), find Select USB Configuration and select Charging This worked for me.

I had the same problem with MI Redmi 4a, I solved it →

first become a developer by clicking

Settings-> About Phone-> MIUI Version (7-8 times)

then setup-> advanced setup-> developer options-> USB debugging

Enable usb debugging, then go to the developer’s settings for the last item name: Enable MIUI optimization ", disable this option, it will ask you to reboot, then reboot the device by clicking the Disable and reboot button

after rebooting go to Settings-> Permissions click the button in the upper right corner. Enable install via USB option

here it is!

Please confirm your email address and phone number in your Mi account first, then try the following:

  • Settings → Advanced settings → Developer options → Turn off Miui optimizations → Reboot
  • Security → Permissions → Gear icon in the upper right corner → Enable “Install via USB”
  • Settings → Advanced settings → Developer options → Turn on / off USB debugging → Turn on Install via USB

I will write what worked for me, these other solutions did not work.

"Set via USB" switch to ON,

When the Allow dialog box appears, quickly click on the screen from the dialog box.

Repeat this until you see that "Install via USB" is turned on.

After you see that “Install via USB” is turned on, you need to check again by clicking the “Back” button and go back to the developer option.

It worked for me. Thank.

I had the same problem, tried all the suggested workarounds, but none of them worked for me. Oddly enough, what actually worked for me was turning on MIUI optimization (it was turned off when the problem arose)! After turning on, I was able to switch to the installation via USB.

I tried everything to no avail and then read somewhere that you have to use a VPN and connect to China to unlock your bootloader. The same solution applies here and it worked!

If you turn off Wi-Fi, you may not have registered your MIUI account as a developer account yet.

To do this, go to the MIUI Dev center and register an already created account. After the review process, this should no longer eavesdrop on you.

But remember how others noted:

  • Disable Wi-Fi connection.
  • Enable Mobile Connection

A solution with NO VPNing that worked for me:

  • go to Settings->Accounts->MiAccount->AccountSecurity->Devices
  • I had a Redmi 9 device listed there (I don't have a Redmi device)
  • I deleted this device, so now there were no devices.
  • go back to the developer settings, enable the installation via USB, everything will work.

I assume that everyone will not have the Redmi device listed, maybe some will have a different device, maybe some will even have the correct device (this is not something I can check for myself), but it makes sense to me that fixing any wrong ones devices from this list (or possibly removing all devices like me) may solve the problem.

I got this problem in my Xiaomi Mi5 from India. All the solutions mentioned in my case did not work. Then I tried to find out the root cause of this and solve this problem. In MIUI, in order to change the “Install via USB” setting, you must be connected to the Internet and subscribed to your Mi account. For some reason, requests from Chinese servers were rejected, so I connected to one open Chinese VPN and tried to enable "Install via USB" again, and I had success. For a detailed solution and VPN information, see this useful Youtube video: https://youtu.be/MeKUJlD-Ke4

In my case, I used my Redmi 4 phone and usb debugging did not work. He always gave the message "device is temporarily limited . " I tried all this but the result was the same. Then I found it stupid that I turned on the device only in charging mode. When I switch to MTP (File Transfer) , then it starts working correctly. I know him stupid, but it can help someone.

If you have root, you can force it to use adb shell adb shell su setprop persist.security.adbinput 1

Wi-Fi should be disabled for security reasons because you can use adb over wifi
