Ability to display control characters in gedit

I am new to Linux. Is there any way to see control characters in gedit. I went to options-> settings, and all I have is the ability to see the line numbers of a text file. Is there any plugin that needs to be installed in order to see the same? I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and the gedit version is 3.4.1.

The gedit-plugins package is available for Ubuntu. Install this and see the Draw Spaces section in the gedit settings. You can configure it to display spaces, tabs, line feeds, etc.

You can use this command in terminal: sudo apt-get install gedit-plugins
