Select row range in Notepad ++

Is there a way to select a range of strings in Notepad ++? I would like to write two numbers - from and to, say: from 10,000 to 25,000.

I have this large MySQL dump file and I can only select it with some function.

The easiest way:

  • Ctrl + G , go to line 10.000.

    • Menu > Edit > Begin / End select .

  • Ctrl + G , go to line 25,000.

    • Menu > Edit > Begin / End select .

Now you have chosen your range.

Or just right-click for the Start / End option.

I tried to understand the same thing on FOREVER! I finally realized. The closest answer I could get was CTRL g , then Shift PageUp .

But if you want to select more than the entire page, go to the last line you want and press CTRL Shift Home. This will allow you to choose where you are at the top of your text. The same applies to CTRL. Shift PageDn will choose from which line you are on the last line.

I don't know Notepad ++, but as a quick fix you can use

perl -ne 'print if $. >= 10_000 && $. <= 25_000' < file.sql > some-lines.sql

(_ The numbers in Perl are for clarity only and may be omitted. This is similar to writing 10,000 in the USA or 10,000 in Germany, but without cultural confusion.)
