Intellij 14 weird editor / cursor behavior

I just upgraded my Intellij IDEA to version 14, but I have a problem that my cursor in the editor window is "different." It starts as a protected mode, which looks like an insert mode, but it is not where I cannot insert anything. After pressing some keys, such as a , it returns to its normal state, except that sometimes it enters selection mode, and I mean, if I hit backspace instead of deleting the character, as expected, it just selects / selects it . I find this behavior really annoying, and I hope one of you can help me.

Additional Information:

Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite
Intellij 14.0

Please ask if I can provide any additional information that may be helpful.

Disabling / removing the ideaVim plugin seemed to help me solve this problem. The description of the plugin indicates that you can configure it using the script configuration in ~/.ideavimrc , which can also be parameters for obtaining the "normal" behavior with the plugin installed, but I did not consider this, although since the plugin does not work, I think All this is useful to me. Hope this helps other people fix their problems with IntelliJ 14.

Go to tools:

Disable Vim Emulator:

The cursor should return to normal.

Settings > IDE Settings > Editor > Appearance > Disable Use block caret

This fixed the problem for me.

Create your own keyboard shortcut for Disable or Enable Insert / Ovewrite

Go to the Keymap section of your preferences and add a keyboard shortcut to the Toggle Insert / Override command.

You seem to have entered insert mode. I have a Mac, and I introduced some key combination that somehow turned on insert mode. Using a carriage block has not been noted for me. I found this mentioned in the JetBrains thread to exit insert mode

In short, click on Mac to return to edit mode with normal cursor
