Cannot find Microsoft.Office.Interop Visual Studio

I need to develop an application that will be able to send emails using C # with Visual Studio. Allows the app to use email templates and more, but I have a problem.

I cannot find Office.Interop links when I try to add them, which means that I cannot work with Outlook. Office is installed on my computer, but I'm also trying to install PIA from this link http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3508 , but it hasn’t changed anything (when I start MSI, he stops without words, I don’t know if he is part of the problem).

I use Visual Studio 2013 Express, in case this can limit the possible answers.

Look for them under COM when trying to add links. You should find the link below and perhaps the Microsoft Outlook 15.0 object library if you need it. There are similar libraries for Word, Excel, etc.:

Update: The object library must contain Interop material. Try adding this to the source file and see if it finds what you need:

using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook;

If you are using Visual Studio 2015 and you encounter this problem, you can install MS Office Developer Tools for VS2015 here .

With Visual Studio 2015, I activated it with the following steps.

  • Programs and Features β†’ Select Visual Studio> Change
  • Select "Change."
  • Windows and Webdevelopment β†’ Check "Microsoft Office Developer Tools"
  • Start update

Now it should work.

You can find it here:

C: \ Windows \ assembly \ GAC_MSIL \ Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word \ 15.0.0.0__71e9bce111e9429c \ Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.dll

Browse it, then add links

If you installed the latest Visual Studio and want to find the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook library or any other Microsoft.Office.Interop library, you should look below two folders:

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Visual Studio Tools for Office\PIA\Office14 C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Visual Studio Tools for Office\PIA\Office15

Please note that the folder may be C:\Program Files\

I think you need to run this .msi to install the DLL. After I run this .msi, I can go to (VS 2012) Add links> Assemblies> Extensions and all Microsoft.Office.Interop DLLs.

On my computer, the DLLs are located in "c: \ Program Files (x86) \ Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0 \ Visual Studio Tools for Office \ PIA" so that you can check the same / equivalent directory on your own to make sure they are not there?

I had the same problem with Visual Studio Community 2013, I fixed it downloading and installing the latest Office Developer Tools update for Visual Studio 2013. Now I can see the whole Microsoft.Office.Interop. * when I go to

Add Links> Assemblers> Extensions

You can download it here:

Just doing as @Kjartan.

The steps are as follows:

  1. Right-click the name of your C # project in Visual Studio "Solution Explorer";

  2. Then select "add -> Reference -> COM -> Type Libraries" in order;

  3. Find "Microsoft Office Object Library 16.0" and add it as a link (Note: the version number may differ depending on the OFFICE you set);

  4. After that, you will see "Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word" in the "Link" section of your project.
