What is the difference between key cards - Mac OS X and Mac OS X 10.5+?

I am new to IntelliJ IDEA and was initially involved in creating shortcuts to begin active development in the IDE.

Mac OS X default keyboard layout.

What is the purpose of another scheme of Mac OS X 10.5+ ? Is it better (or worse?) Than the default? I would like to know how they compare and what are the main differences.

There is a good explanation in the help about the difference between the two schemes:

  • The "Mac OS X 10.5+" layout is close to the default shortcuts for Mac OS. For example, cmd + G is a common Mac shortcut to find the next matching text, cmd + O - open class - which is close to open action
  • The "IntelliJ IDEA Classic - Mac OS X 10.5 schema" is close to the IDEA shortcuts on other operating systems - Windows and Linux. For example, cmd + N - an open class - is close to ctrl + N for the same option on Linux or Windows

The "10.5" keymap raison d'Γͺtre can be found in a 2009 JetBrains post :

I want to introduce here a new keyboard layout that we recently created for Mac OS X users. The main reasons for this are:

  • More built-in key combinations for standard actions (for example, "Find", "Find next", "Go to line", "Bookmark" Close ", etc.).
  • Less conflicts with system default keywords such as ExposΓ© (F9, F10, F11) and others.
