How to increase application heap size in Eclipse?

Some say that I need to do this in Run Configurations for my application. When I open this window, could you tell me how to set the correct argument and memory size? Tell me how to install 2 GB or 1.5 GB?

In the startup configuration that you want to configure (just click on it), open the Arguments tab and add -Xmx2048m to the VM arguments section. You can also set -Xms (small heap size).

  • Go to the Eclipse folder
  • Find the Eclipse Icon in the Eclipse Folder
  • Right click on it, you will get the option "Show package contents"
  • The contents of the folder will open on the screen.
  • If you are on a Mac, you will find "MacOS"
  • Open the macOS folder, you will find the eclipse.ini file
  • Open it in a word or any file editor for editing

    ...

     -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Xms40m -Xmx512m

    ...

  • Replace -Xmx512m with -Xmx1024m

  • Save the file and restart Eclipse
  • Have a nice time :)

Find the Run button present at the top of Eclipse, then select Run Configuration → The arguments in the VM arguments section just mention the heap size you want to expand, as shown below:

 -Xmx1024m
