No choice of basic authentication in IIS7

I do not have the ability for basic authentication in IIS Manager in IIS => Authentication. I have the following options:

Anonymous Authentication ASP.NET Impersonation Forms Authentication

I am using Windows 7 professional N, and according to this , Basic Authentication should be available to me.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Go to Programs and Features, turn Windows features on or off, and enable basic authentication in IIS.

Full path for Windows 7 and 8:

  • Control Panel
  • Programs and Features
  • Turn Windows features on or off
  • Expand: Internet Information Services => World Wide Web Services => Security
  • Select Basic Authentication

I do not have enough answers to add a comment to the selected answer, but it seems to me that it is important to add that you most likely need to close and reopen IIS Manager before it shows authentication options in the list.

Otherwise, you may go crazy trying to understand why you did this and the list has not changed.

You may need to install a basic authentication module for IIS.

For Vista / Win7 it is: Control Panel β†’ Programs β†’ Turning Windows Features On or Off

For server 2008: server manager β†’ roles β†’ web server β†’ add role services Then in the tree structure it is: Internet Information Services β†’ World Wide Web Services β†’ Security β†’ Basic Authentication

Check the box and set. Then you can see the basic authentication function.
