On OS X Leopard (10.5 and later)
Open a terminal. From the menu, select Terminal> Perferences. Open Settings> Advanced. Deselect "Sound Call". (You can also set a “visible call” that will make your terminal blink, not a beep) In OS X Tiger (10.4 and earlier):
Open a terminal. From the menu, choose Terminal> Window Settings. In the Terminal Inspector, click the drop-down list and select Emulation. Deselect "Ringtone". (You can also set a “visible call” that will make your terminal blink instead of a beep)
