The cygwin installation: setup.ini is not available at http://mirrors.kernel.org

I am trying to install cygwin on a Windows 2008 server. I was able to get the version of cygwin setup.exe version 2.721.
Since cygwin.com is currently not working, I tried several mirrors found in the google cache of cygwin mirrors. I ran into the same problem as this guy: Need help installing cygwin: there may be a problem with the ini file
As they suggested, I tried http://mirrors.kernel.org as a mirror. It downloads setup.bz files in order. Then I get the error "Unable to get setup.ini from http://mirrors.kernel.org/ ".
Any suggestions on installing cygwin now?

I got this error when I tried to use http://cygwin.com/setup.exe and not http://cygwin.com/setup-x86.exe or http://cygwin.com/setup-x86_64.exe . It seems mirrors have recently removed setup.exe support. setup.exe is still available for download, but none of the mirrors work.

The solution is to use setup-x86.exe or setup-x86_64.exe .

The mirror should be the full path http://mirrors.kernel.org/sourceware/cygwin

If you receive complaints about .ini from a newer installation, you need to find a newer setup.exe somewhere on the network that you trust. (And the guys cygwin? Grrr for not setting setup.exe in your mirrors and signing your exe!)

the reason is so simple:

setup.ini has changed its location!

just go to cygwin website, download the latest setup.exe file. it will be ok.

During installation, select Install via http / ftp proxy. A firewall may block the installation. Therefore, a proxy will help. Also try running as Administrator.

It helps..

For those who still get this error even with the correct installer, make sure that you run the installation file on your local hard drive.

My problem was that I tried to run the executable from a mapped network drive. Copying and running the program locally fixed the problem.

Can you use another mirror? Try lug.mtu.edu or something like that. I have always had good results.

Gave me the same error Unable to get setup from ... I used the new setup-x86_64.exe from Cygwin.org and had to select the Use Internet Explorer Proxy Settings option.

He selected mirrored URLs. It worked for me.

But, if he does not select all the mirrors on his own, we can add the url http://mirrors.kernel.org to the download list.

Initially, when he did not download the list of mirrors on his own, I tried to add the http://mirrors.kernel.org url above manually, and it worked like that too.
